HISTORY

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BARANGAY

Tinambac, during the middle of the 18th century, began to feel the presence of Urban, while other towns were enjoying modernity in life as public health, drinking water, and other data.

Wishes were granted when missionaries came from Spain and were pushed by fate to stay for a while in Tinambac. The coming of the missionaries was evidence of having a local government although no records of its early leaders were documented. Pueblo was organized as towns, sitios, and barrios in every barangay. Missionaries living in a certain barrio meant to call the place Buenas Aires due to the fresh and good air that smashes their face all the time. The word “Buena” means good while “Aires” means air.

By 1902 American professional teachers arrived in the Philippine Islands and scattered themselves to some mountainous regions and Tinambac was one of the recipients. Buenas Aires was changed to “CAGLILIOG” based on a place boundary of LABOG and PUNTA which featured ‘ LI-OG’ part of the human neck.

Cagliliog was evidently abundant in many kinds of occupations in land, sea, rivers, and swamps. So people from other places settled in Cagliliog and abruptly had a population of 747 based on the data of the demographic profile of Tinambac 1902.

The abundancy of the places signaled the improvement of education, religion, and other vocations. Reflected by progressive barangay, connect school buildings (Elementary/High School) were erected. More support coming from highest government showered the barangay officials.

Almost 90% of the population was Roman Catholic, dreaming of hearing mass at least once a month. A chapel was built from native materials. The Tenyente del Barrio and company, through their efforts, the following priests willing to offer their services once a week as requested by the inhabitants. Rev. Fr. Pedro F. Domalaza, Rev. Fr. Parcero, and Rev. Fr. John Tria and more who sacrificed sharing their knowledge. As representatives of GOD, the effective moves of the religious leaders are supported by some priests who have visited the place. Now, we are enjoying the blessings from our Almighty God through the Parish Church of Saint Joseph.

Finally, our Barangay Buenas Aires which is now Cagliliog, humbly mentions the progress thrust the joint efforts of the Bangay and School.
